Hearing Test and Uro Update

I've been REALLY bad about updating our blog! But there really hadn't been anything new with Shae until recently. First was her follow-up with the urologist for her kidney reflux. Now that Shae is finally potty trained (woo-hoo!), we were able to discontinue the daily antibiotic that she has been taking since she was a year old. The other good news is that we don't have to go back to the urologist ever again unless Shae gets a urinary tract infection. Since she's never had a UTI, we are hoping for the best!

Two days ago, we had Shae's biannual hearing test, and for the first time ever, she was old enough to understand what she was supposed to do. She was a champ, and did a fantastic job! I was so proud of her! The good news is that her "good ear" can hear at 10 dB, which is like a pin drop. The bad news is that the microtic ear hears at 95 dB, which is like a foghorn right next to her ear. Even with the bone conduction test, she only hear 65 dB, which is nowhere near the speech range. So that tells us that her hearing loss is mixed - both conductive and sensorineural. We go back in one month for a "two-tester" session, so that we can try to get more data on Shae's hearing loss and what it means for her going forward.

Happy Halloween!!!
