As we are getting closer to the BAHA fitting, I've been researching the different kinds - the Intenso, the Divino, the BP100. I've joined the BAHA_PPL Yahoo group. I've been making deals with God - if You please, please, please make Shae like this hearing-aid-on-a-supertight-headband contraption, and please, please, please let it help her hear better, I will be a better person. I will be nicer. I will cook dinner every single night and skip the drive through. I will play 804 straight games of Dora the Explorer Candyland when I really just want to sit down for two minutes. I will not buy a single new stitch of clothing for myself for the rest of 2010. Just PLEASE make this work!!!
I am already designing cute little headband covers in my head to make this more palatable to a three year old. We've talked about how the doctor will have a special headband for her at her next appointment. I am imagining the look on her face when she can hear on her right side. I am also imagining her refusing to wear it and throwing it across the room, shattering a $4000 piece of equipment into tiny little fragments. I want to hope that this will go perfectly, but I know better than to get my hopes too high. I am getting excited, and I am afraid of being disappointed. I know, realistically speaking, that this will be a gradual process where she only wears the aid for short periods of time at first. And I am OK with that. I am just hoping that she will give it a chance. So if you read this, just say a little prayer that this goes according to plan.
