Post-Op Update and Baha News

It's been a little longer than I thought since I updated. I am posting updated pics of Shae, so everyone can see how she's healing.

Baha Update: I got a call today from duPont telling me that Miss Rebecca (audiologist) asked the scheduling assistant to make an appointment with me for Shae's Baha. Of course, I asked if that meant the insurance issue was all cleared up, but the scheduling assistant did not know, of course. My last message from Insurance Betty said that duPont was going to order the Baha, bill it under their code, and then resubmit it with the one I gave them if it gets denied. The catch: Rebecca's next appointment is not until July 20th, after my insurance changes. They will call me if there's a cancellation in the meantime, but I'm not counting on it. I don't know what is going to happen, but I guess the upshot is that we're taking a leap of faith here and hoping we don't get stuck with a $5,000 bill.

And finally, a bit of disappointment. I've thought all along that Shae had stenosis of the canal (a very narrow ear canal) which would mean she didn't have maximum conductive hearing loss - at least SOME sound would be able to make its way through to her middle ear. The surgery had the benefit of pulling up her ear so that we can clearly see that what we thought was (and still looks like from the outside) a very narrow ear canal is in fact a dead end. This means Shae has full atresia and therefore, maximum conductive hearing loss. Which makes the Baha all the more important for her. It is disappointing, but at the same time, it is nice to know definitively.
