Shae had her audiology appointment on Tuesday, and was fitted with her very own Baha. I was quite apprehensive when Rebecca's first words when we walked in were, "There's been a change. But it works to your favor..."
Seems that Cochlear Americas (the manufacturer) has some sort of software glitch that makes the BP100 model of the Baha generate massive feedback when worn on the softband. So, they sent us a Divino instead (which is the same model Shae's been wearing on loan from the hospital.) When the software glitch gets fixed, they will send us the BP100 and we get to keep the Divino free of charge as a backup. Sounds good so far... so now we just have to hope that everything works out with the insurance. I left the e-mail from Aetna stating that our plan "does cover a Baha based on medical necessity" along with my original e-mail to them for Billing Betty. Hopefully, she codes everything properly and there are no issues. But I am fully prepared to do battle if something goes awry.
The most important thing is that Shae now has her Baha, and she will be able to hear everything that all other kids can hear. And she no longer has to wear an upside down loaner from the hospital (they only had a left sided Baha, and she needs a right.) Shae deserves to have full hearing and anything less is not an option for me, especially after seeing how much of a difference it makes for her.
